There are a few different forms of testing working memory, and this test uses 3 different variations. Working memory involves both storing and manipulating information, serving as a mental workspace where we can process and use information.Īlan Baddeley and Graham Hitch proposed a model of working memory that suggests it consists of multiple components: the central executive, which controls attention and coordinates the actions of the other components the phonological loop, which processes verbal and auditory information the visuospatial sketchpad, which processes visual and spatial information and the episodic buffer, which integrates information from various sources and helps create a coherent, chronological narrative. However, it’s more than just a temporary storage space for information. Working memory is the ability to use, manipulate and perform complex tasks on numbers, letters, and items. In this test, we are measuring the participants ability to recall their explicit memory with animal images. Riding a bike, tying a shoe, or typing on a keyboard are examples of tasks potentially stored in implicit memory. This is primarily affected by past experiences no matter how long ago those experiences occurred. Implicit memory, on the other hand, is the unconscious memory of skills and how to do things. This category can be further subdivided into episodic memory, which pertains to personal events or “episodes”, and semantic memory, which stores general world knowledge that we have accumulated throughout our life. Explicit memory refers to conscious, intentional recollection of factual information, previous experiences, and concepts. Long-term memory can be divided into two main types: explicit (or declarative) and implicit (or non-declarative). There are two types of long term memory: implicit and explicit. In this memory test, we use animal images to test your visual memory by showing you 3 animals at first and asking you to recall the same 3 animals at the end. In Cognitive Psychology, long term memory is classified as information stored and retrieved for longer than a few minutes.
